Our Kaunertal

Our hotel in Prutz is located at the entrance of Kaunertal, a valley that has witnessed a remarkable tourism evolution over the past century.

Described as romantic and untamed, Kaunertal was a remote and hard-to-reach destination until the mid-19th century. The development of mountain pastures led to the construction of the first access roads, ushering in the valley’s earliest visitors. This led to the establishment of inns and the emergence of locals as tour and mountain guides.

In 1873, the Gepatschhaus was built, the first German Alpine Club hut in Austria. By 1928, the valley had been connected to other transport links; the first tourist association was founded in 1930. From the 1950s onwards, the valley saw a steady influx of mountain-loving holidaymakers. The beautiful mountains attracted more and more people to Kaunertal. Then, in 1966, the opening of the first ski lift in Fendels marked the beginning of a new era. Since that time, the valley has evolved significantly. Today, the winter sports areas are well developed and invite you not only to go skiing, snowboarding, and tobogganing but also to go hiking in Tyrol.
